There is a lot of evidence to show how beneficial it is to breastfeed your baby, especially in the early weeks. However, it can take time to get the hang of, and there may be reasons why you cannot breastfeed. Take a look at the Start for Life leaflet 

How can I tell that breastfeeding is going well?

If you have any feeding worries or concerns, the best thing to do is speak to the Infant Feeding Team.

or whg Children’s Champions offer one to one and group sessions on emotional and practical support to aid infant feeding across Walsall. This includes building confidence, sharing of lived experience, signposting to additional clinical services and support to improve social circumstances. To refer into the team please email

Walsall partners are working towards making Walsall Breastfeeding Friendly.  This includes ensuring public places welcome women who wish to breastfeed.

Breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways of giving every child the best start in life. We need to work together as a community, so women feel comfortable and able to breastfeed wherever they choose.
